Where does it come from?

Our turf is grown on the Brisbane River at Wivenhoe Pocket, near Wivenhoe Dam at Fernvale. We are one hour from Brisbane CBD.

Slabs or rolls?

Different farms have different harvesters. Depending on the harvester, turf can be either in rolls or slabs and in different sizes. Our turf harvester is a slab harvester and cuts slabs that measure 60mm x 120mm.

How thick is a slab?

What is the thickness of a slab? We love our slabs to be consistent, but they can vary slightly. There will be approx. 20-35mm of soil on a slab with your lush turf on top. It depends on the variety. See the picture below as a guide.

What are our pallet sizes?

A pallet measures 1200mm x 1200mm. Maximum pallet sqm are dependent upon the variety harvested:
Turf Variety Maximum sqm per pallet
Sir Walter 50 sqm
Soft Leaf Buffalo 50 sqm
Zoysia 50 sqm
Aussiblue 60 sqm
Wintergreen 75 sqm

Eg. a 74sqm Sir Walter order may be harvested as 1 x 50 and 1 x 24 pallet; or 2 x 37sqm pallets. Pallet size is particularly important for pick-ups working to vehicle capacity limits.

When are harvests done?

Harvest times are dependent upon the season. During hot weather, from October to March, we harvest before dawn. All pick up orders must be in be in by 2.00pm the afternoon before an AM harvest during this period.

Customers note: Zoysia, Aussiblue, Sir Walter and Soft Leaf Buffalo are NOT harvested on Saturday mornings. Only Wintergreen is harvested on Saturday mornings. If picking up turf or receiving turf delivered on Saturdays, customers must install immediately. Do not delay.

In cooler weather, we harvest a little later in the morning and can also do an afternoon harvest as the ground is cooler.

Can I pick up from the farm?

Yes, we love our customers to pick up from our farm. Pick-ups are available from 8.30am to 11.30am. All pick-ups are pre-ordered in advance of a harvest. Please make an order by contacting 1300 871 366. Pick up orders need to be in by 2.00pm the day before pick-up. You can try for a same day pick up, but the harvests for the day may have already been completed.

Do I need to return pallets?

No, our pallets are steel pallets that stay with our harvester at the farm or on our delivery trucks. When we deliver to your site, it is pallet-less. Turf is dropped without the steel pallet, it is just a stack of turf. This means there is nothing for you to return to the farm, and nothing for us to collect. The same goes for pick-ups. We will load your vehicle pallet-less. Some customers can pick up multiple pallets with large carrying capacity vehicles and may be able to forklift off at their job end. If this is the case, we ask that you bring your own pallets and we will fork onto them, before loading you.

What levels should I use to prepare the underturf?

100mm thickness of premium quality underturf is ideal with an absolute minimum of 50mm. Allow 30mm lower than the finished turf height as an allowance for your slabs of turf to meet the finished level. Remember, the new soil will settle little.

When should I lay my turf?

Your turf will be delivered to you freshly harvested. We strongly recommend that you lay and water your turf immediately.

What can happen if I don’t lay my turf immediately?

Turf is a living thing. It is mowed and watered before it is harvested. As soon as it is harvested, it will start to deteriorate until you lay it and water it in your yard. Slabs are packed one on top of each other on the pallet with no air or sunlight. In hot weather, turf can “cook” from the inside out if left to sit on a pallet for too long. We call this “pallet burn”. Turf will not recover from pallet burn.
