Laying a new lawn is a huge undertaking, but a rewarding experience. If you’re someone who likes to see your projects through from start to finish, then you might consider picking up your turf yourself — directly from our farm.
Picking up your turf yourself can be one of the most exciting parts of the entire process; you’ll see where your turf was grown and get to take it home with you on the spot.
Beyond the excitement of seeing your hard work and preparation finally pay off, there are a few special benefits to picking up your turf directly from the farm that can save you time, effort, and money… and even provide a little bit of enjoyment!
1) It’s a nice drive
Occupying a prime location on the Brisbane River, our farm allows for exceptional growing conditions, as well as spectacular views. From start to finish, your turf pick-up day should be a truly enjoyable excursion — and that includes the drive!
Not only will you rest easy knowing that you saved yourself the cost of delivery, but you’ll have made a day out of it.
If you’re not a local, take the opportunity to visit some famous landmarks along the way! Grab a famous Fernvale Pie at the bakery, check out Cormorant Bay picnic grounds at Wivenhoe Dam, visit the Spillway controlling Brisbane’s water supply, or just dip your toes in the Brisbane River as you cross Twin Bridges on your way to our farm!
There’s plenty to do along the way that will make your journey feel thoroughly enjoyable.
2) It’s cost effective
By picking up your turf directly from the farm, you’ll save yourself the added expense of delivery. It’s especially worth it if you live nearby or have a little extra time to take a relaxing drive into the countryside.
With the money you save on delivery, you’ll have extra cash to spend elsewhere. We understand that getting new turf is an investment, so we’re happy to help you save even a small amount of money by allowing for pickup.
3) It’s flexible
Picking turf up yourself might sound like a lot of extra work, but we’ve made it as easy and flexible as possible for you.
The farm gate is open for pick-ups from 8.30am to 11.30am Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings from 6.30am to 9.00am. Turf is only harvested to order. There is no turf just sitting around waiting for sale like food at the supermarket. Make sure to put your order in by 2.00pm the day before you want to pick-up. All turf varieties are harvested at 4.00am Monday to Friday. Only Wintergreen is harvested on Saturdays.
Note: So, to pick-up Sir Walter, Soft Leaf Buffalo, Zoysia or Aussiblue on a Saturday, order it by 2.00pm on Thursday because it will be harvested on Friday 4.00am.
You can pick up your load of turf on any day that suits you, Monday through Saturday. This allows YOU to be in charge of your schedule instead of waiting for our truck to get to you. Pick up on a day that works best for you. Just make sure to order in advance and avoid disappointment.
If our farm gate hours don’t suit you, just call us so that we can help you make arrangements that work best for you.
4) It’s fresh
We harvest our turf early in the morning; Wintergreen is harvested Monday through Saturday and all other varieties are harvested Monday through Friday.
When you pick it up yourself, you’re getting it right after it has been harvested and is in its freshest state. It’s the perfect time to take it home with you and get started on your plans for your new lawn!
You’ll have access to the freshest, healthiest version of your new turf without having to wait for the delivery truck. We strongly recommend that you have your soil prep done in advance so you can get started laying your fresh turf as soon as you get home.
5) It’s possible… so why not?
It’s only one hour from Brisbane CBD to our farm. Not only is our location convenient and enjoyable to travel to, but the job becomes even easier if you happen to have your own truck, ute, trailer, or any combination of the above!
If you have the time, tools, and resources to make the pick-up yourself, the entire process can be hugely rewarding for only a small amount of effort.
To put it simply, you should pick up your turf directly from our farm, if you answer “yes” to absolutely any of the following questions!
- Are you local or do you live close by?
- If not, do you have the time to make the drive out to our farm?
- Are you looking for a bit of relaxation, too, and would like to make a morning of it?
- Would you prefer not to pay for delivery?
- Would you rather not wait for the delivery truck and instead pick up on your own schedule?
- Left it too late to get turf delivered?
- Do you have a truck or trailer with enough room for your load of turf?
How to Prepare to Pick Up Your Turf
If you’ve decided that picking up your turf yourself is the best option for you, then there are a few simple ways to prepare.
Consider your capacity
For Aussiblue, Zoysia, Sir Walter and Soft Leaf Buffalo turf, up to 40sqm will fit in the back of an empty ute tray; 20-25sqm will fit on an unbraked single axle trailer; and 80sqm will fit on a dual axle trailer. That means that if you have a ute and single axle trailer, you have capacity to transport up to 65sqm of these turf varieties.
For Wintergreen turf, up to 50sqm will fit in the back of an empty ute tray and 25-30sqm on an unbraked single axle trailer. 100sqm will fit on a dual axle trailer. So, if you have a ute and double axle trailer, you have capacity to transport up to 150sqm of wintergreen turf.
If you intend to load your turf onto pallets, make sure to bring your own
Prepare your trailer
If you’re using your own truck or trailer, make sure your tyres are pumped up and ready to haul your load of turf. Check your carrying capacity to make sure your vehicle will be legally able to carry the load.
Pay ahead
